Schroeder’s German Beer Hall Reopens

The historic German beer hall Schroeder’s reopened to the public this week, featuring interior design by BCV, an updated façade by Levy Design Partners and a new California-German menu.

The renovation brings a modern feel to the 120-year old restaurant and bar without losing the characteristics – such as the original rosewood bar – that made it a Financial District institution. BCV worked with new owners Jan Wiginton and Andy Chun (also of Press Club) to reorganize the 5,000 sq. ft. space into two halves, with the front portion retaining a beer hall feel and the rear half taking on a more dining-focused feel. According to Eater, the dining portion of the restaurant has “Cal-German innovations like corn and tomato spatzle, beets with pumpernickel and goat cheese, and a wiener schnitzel accompanied by fava beans and preserved lemon” on the menu.
