Later this year, the historic Quarters 10 building on Yerba Buena Island will be moved from its current location, near the new Eastern span of the Bay Bridge, to a hillside site above Clipper Cove. The move will provide space for the new Westbound Yerba Buena on- and off-ramps and a permanent home for the landmark building.

Recently, BCV staff visited Q10 and its future home, oriented along a hillside near the intersection of Macalla and Treasure Island roads. The foundation and formwork for soon-to-be-poured retaining walls were in place, and rough grading had been finished in preparation for new landscaping, a parking lot and restrooms.

The site at Clipper Cove references the original hillside location and reinterprets Q10’s previous views of the old Bay Bridge with an axial view of the new eastern span tower curving gracefully beyond Yerba Buena to the east.

Quarters 10’s upper floor is intended to be offices and event space, supplemented by the garage. The lower level is well suited for café or concession use, as well as a space for kayak rentals, given its location just above the public cove.

The current time-frame for the move is mid-December, when the two structures (the residence and garage) will make their way up and over Yerba Buena Island to Clipper Cove. BCV will post an update on the relocation in the coming weeks– stay tuned!
